A walk in nature has, since, become much more than just a walk. Plants, grasses, leaves, and trees, even rocks, shells, and other found items are viewed with a whole new dimension. Nature's cast-offs create, sometimes useful, often whimsical baskets and other artistic pieces.
I appreciate your interest in my work and website. Thank you for taking the time to visit, have a fabulous day!
A little about me:
I began coiling pine needle baskets in the early 1980's, I was fascinated from the start. Creating designs with the heads of the pine needles and different stiches seemed limitless. One design and shape led to another.
I then tried date palm inflorescence and immediately loved the great texture they provided. Using natural-based dyes, to dye my raffia, I was able to add more variety and interest to the patterns and designs. Each basket, or creation, is unique.
After coiling for many years, I branched out and learned weaving and twining techniques. With these new skills, the materials list grew to include sea grasses, reed, willows, and eventually even bull-whip kelp. No longer limited to baskets, I experimented with fish traps, wall hangings, wall pouches, and various other creations. The myriad materials, ideas, and inspirations are never-ending.
